SX Micro handheld info

Buggle it! My battery pack for the above threw it's terminals in the air during the winter layup, and died despite my giving it the occasional charge.

I took the old rechargeable batteries out of the housing, ready to buy some replacements - and SWMBO 'cleared up' and binned them! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Does anyone know what I should be buying as replacements. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The only info I can give is that the AC-DC charger gives 12v @ 2.4Va, BUT, the thing will operate on a standard 9v alkaline battery (Duracell MN1604) 'cos I tried one at this lower voltage for safety's sake just to check the radio was ok.

As the charger is flinging in 12v, I assume I need tabbed batteries totalling the same voltage.

For some reason I have it in my mind that the battery is actually 6 volts, even though I have charged mine from the boats 12v supply.

If you dont have any luck with a reply, pm me and I'll put mine on charge and tell you what the charged voltage is.

got bored so I took the battery pack to bits. On the battery it says, Sanyo 9.6V 600mAh model 8N 600AACL ZH

If you find a source, let me know.

You're right, it's all come flooding back, I must have subconciously (it's my normal state! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) remembered it being around 9v when trying the Duracell.

There are 8 batteries in the bank, and I believe they are NiCd. Dont use Li ion ones with a NiCd charger - Ni MnH are OK (or at least they work on my charger) but Li Ion have zero internal resistance so an ordionary charger would see them as a dead short.

All dredged from a crap memory so should be regarded with caution if not suspicion.

R S components have what look like suitable batteries

Blimey, eight of 'em eh? I thought there were 2 or 4, but didn't remember eight! Ah well, I guess one can just get a bunch of tabbed 1.2v's and link them in series.

I'm going to check out the alternatives in my local specialist battery shop at the weekend (I hope) and if I get any sensible solutions, I'll let you know. Will check out the RS site too, though I've got their CD somewhere.
