SX-Micro 90 VHF

This is daft, but I guess some 'forumner' will know.

I have an SX-Micro 90 portable VHF, and I cannot identify the right charger. I have a large plastic crate full of IT and electrical bits and bobs - including about a dozen 240v to 'Low Voltage' chargers of varying makes, vintages and outputs.

Could someone who knows tell me how to identify the one I'm looking for?
 
the charger label says:
AC-DC ADAPTOR
TYPE: SA35-159BS
INPUT: AC240V 50HZ
OUTPUT: DC12V 200MA

(I stuck on the charger a bit of masking tape with VHF written on it ... smug git!)
 
Could anyone tell the the size of the jack that fits in the charger socket on the body of this radio.

'Strikealight' are making up a new charger for me and only stock 5mm jacks which I think may be too big..?

Battery pack for SX micro 90

Inside the plastic case is a shrink wrapped set of cells labelled "Sanyo CADNICA UN-800AACL"....:confused:. This is just a bunch of 8 solder tagged AA 800mAh Ni-Cads joined together in series-:o I would have no issues with replacing them with either Ni-Cads or Ni-mh( 3x original mAh capacity or more:rolleyes:!) AA cells that have been skillfully:eek: taped up and soldered in series.......... what have you got to lose? The solder tagged cells are priced at about £1.75 each- ordinary ones are a bit less..:):):) I doubt if the original charger will have a problem charging them if its still AOK..............................switch on and tune for maximum smoke!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
 
battery charging

I read on older posts that the charger should deliver 12V and 200 mA but can anyone tell me which cable is + and which one is - (i.e. inner cable vs. outer cable)?

The inner one is NEGATIVE
The outer is POSITIVE
Try NOT to get them reversed!!!
The opposite way to the usual connections!!!!!
I'm in the process of making up a couple of replacement batteries right now....

Must admit that for years I used to charge mine direct from the boats batteries. Never seemed to be a problem and the radio is still lying in a drawer somewhere.
 
Can anyone tell me how to remove the battery pack on this radio? I decided to resurrect mine after reading this thread, and suspecting the batteries may be kaputt I tried to pull it apart. Is the battery pack supposed to slide off when that little catch is pulled back. Or do the screws need to come out. I can't budge any part of it, and I suspect the batteries might have leaked, sticking the case shut. The radio turns on with the charger plugged in but turns itself off again seconds later, so I suspect the batteries are retaining virtually no charge.

I have exactly the same problem and I am stumped. The radio is great but the battery needs replacing... but how do I get at it?

Are you still trying to open your SX Micro 90 Handheld? If so, I can help, as I am replacing the battery in mine too and I've worked out how it opens! I have taken some photos and will try to post the on here if I can work out how to do it.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for coming back to me. I did eventually force it open but the battery case was all corroded and spoilt so I had to bite the bullet and buy a new one.
Shame really, because I liked the style of the old one but, in fairness, the new one gives excellent range and battery life that i would not have got from just replacing the batteries on the old one.
