Just joined the forum and posting an intro really.

Having been a yachty for most of my life I got into motor boats about 10 years ago. Raggy things for racing, horse power for cruising is my mantra. Proud owner of a Swordsman 40 for the past 7 years. It was on the East Coast at Burnham on Crouch but last summer we moved south and it's now residing in HYS. Looking forward to spending a bit of time on the Solent this summer and getting down to Dartmouth and Falmouth, which was always a bit of a stretch from the East.

Looking forward to enjoying all the advice and experience of the forum members.

Sadly I can't seem to upload most of the pictures. I probably need to work out how to resize them as I guess they're too big.

I think I've cracked it! Seems to be a 1Mb limit on pics. A couple from a wedding a few years back. We had two Swordsmen, one for the Bride and one for the Groom. After a blast down the river we delivered the happy couple to the YC pontoon where they were married.

My word that's a beautiful boat

Thank you very much. She's not an original Fairey, but has the advantage of being build from glass fibre in 2003. The retro looks without the retro maintenance :) Goes quite well too. We cruise at 24 knots, 1900 rpm on the engines. About 75 l/hr, so not too outrageous on the economy.

I completed the sale of a 37 on Wednesday, had a great sea trial on her.

They are truly lovely boats out on the water.

The 40's are very popular right now, and it would be an easy sell when the time comes, as there really is nothing like it.

According to my records there were 22 Swordsmen built. 8 of them were 37's and just 14 of them 40's. Of the 40's only 9 were built with shafts, the remaining 5 being jets. The jets are really thirsty - a good friend of mine had one which consumed double the diesel of mine. The shaft boats all used twin 450's to 480's, all of which are very good. Little to choose between them at WOT but the 480's are a bit more thirsty. Mine is a shaft drive with twin 450's. It's fitted light, so no AC, no generator or other paraphernalia and floats an inch or so higher in the water at the stern than the others we have sat alongside. In my totally biased opinion it's the sweet spot of all the Swordsman builds.
