swmbo\'s who hate boats

It might just be the threads that I have been reading lately, but there does seem to be a large number of forum users whose 'swmbo' hates boats.

Does this not make it a case of having to offer your DIY or gardening services before you are allowed to play on your boat, or do her favours before she will come with you to play on your boat? Do you have to hide credit card receipts showing expensive items you have lavished on your water based mistress?
(getting the chandlers to list themselves on the receipt as another business so nobody will know what youve been up to!) Is that how your swmbo's make you feel- that your having an affair, making you feely guilty? Do you hesitate before mentioning the boats name in her presence until you are sure of her mood?

Insert smiley face

I think thats why I prefer Bimbos to swmbo's at this time in my life!!!

Re: swmbo\'s who hate boats

My SWMBO doesn't hate the boat, but she pretends to if she wants to get at me - she also loves using it as a tool to extract large sums of money from me for worthless non essential non boaty items - "if it was for the boat you wouldn't think twice" she says, and how can I answer?

Re: swmbo\'s who hate boats

/forums/images/icons/laugh.gif Sounds just like my SHMBO only this morning/forums/images/icons/frown.gif Mine does not object to coming out but at this time of year, its like trying get blood out of a stone - so just have to go solo! Its my daughter who's dead against it! "Go out on the boat are you mad?" She much prefers horsepower of a different kind and would rather see my hard earned cash standing in some field somewhere! Oh well, what can a man do? Me, I just go anyway negotiate when I get back.

By the way, maybe next weekend - 14th? Soliatre will have been most probaly have been langusihing for a week wondering why she not been out!

Re: swmbo\'s who hate boats

My SWMBO does hate the boat, might come out for a couple of afternoons a year as long as I promise not to leave harbour and there are no ripples on the surface of the water - she gets seasick you see. I have suggested various medicines & remidies but she has decided that the best way of avoiding seasickness is to avoid the sea ... which does work mighty effectively I have to admit.

However I don't have to do extra DIY or gardening to earn boat trips, in fact I usually end up going at these jobs like crazy to get them out of the way and she's the one trying to persuade me to do less work aroud the house.

Even on the old credit card bills I don't get too much stick, she usually says something like "you work hard enough for it" - if only she knew the real truth about how much "work" I actually do on a typical day!!!

So I guess I just have an ultra understanding model of SWMBO who lets me go off with my mates (male only but I don't want to push my luck!!!!) and guzzle beer on boating weekends, do no work around the house & spend money on the boat like there's no tomorrow (this winter - new radar, mainsail, sprayhood, cooker, radio, NAVTEX + many other little bits I try to forget about!).

Mind you - and this might be relevant seeing as I've got a raggie boat but am posting this on the stinkie forum, she does sometimes throw in the odd comment about how motor boats are more fun, and how my boat is "so slow and boring" - her words not mine. However I haven't buckled to pressure and traded in for a motor boat (1) because I couldn't afford the fuel on top of everything else and (2) because I suspect that she would change her mind about motor boats being more fun after about 1 outing in winds greater than force 1. Oh yes and (3) because I like my slow old boat and am happy to go everywhere at 5 knots!

Ah yes, "'er indoors" likes to stay home with the horses. I was complaining about this to my then neighbour at Haslar, about the lack of a woman aboard, when another face appeared out of a hatch and said, "I thought that was the whole point!"

Still personally I'm past the age when getting slaughtered for a weekend and coming back needing a holiday really appeals to me, so I think when I next invest perhaps I'll also need to find a "sea wife".

She'll have to be pretty ugly with a wooden leg and a parrot though if I was to get away with it. I have a vicious and territorial wife who'd be quite happy to deprive me of my sphericals at the mere hint of a naughty.

(edit) Also like to add that she's up to a massive 17 days aboard since 1981! (If that gives a sense of the size of the problem).

I know why....

...your SWMBO doesn't like your boat. Its too damn fast and powerful!! Slow down man!! And your fuel bills - sheesh! how's a gal meant to be able to shop at Harvey Nic's when you are pouring 50 gallons an hour into two monster engines!!

Its the "school of diplomacy" next for you m'boy! :)
