After setting off at 03:15 from the Hadliegh Ray I had reached and crossed the Broomway by 06:20, the kind chatty lady operator of Havingore bridge waved to me as I passed through. Once out of the Narrow Cuts it was time to rest the engine, relax and do some sailing.
My ETA for Bridgemarsh was around 08.30 ish but that soon was discarded as the wind direction was inviting me for a beating match for the remaining journey up the Crouch, which of course I accepted, won and thoroughly enjoyed until the disappointing feeling of passing No15, as it was soon time to hang out fenders and furl the sails.
Finally entered Bridgemarsh marina around 09:20 were I was greeted by Biff and shown my mooring for the next couple of months. SWMBO appeared around 11.00 while I was still fussing tidying the boat, by then the sun had started to re appear and welcomely remained so for the rest of the day.
The regulars at Bridgemarsh were very friendly some saying hello and others stopping for a brief introduction chat, all in all though every encounter a pleasant one. The remaining afternoon I fussed around cleaning off the limpet like Canvey mud that always seemed to be permanently attached to my hull, while SWMBO relaxed in the cockpit reading a book lit up by the sun.
Although she wanted to have a little potter to explore the local scenes, fully understood that I was feeling tired from the early start I had, so was quite contented to relax with the gentle rocking of the boat.
The nod of approval soon came at the bottom of the tide were she noticed we were still afloat! Unlike Canvey where SWMBO always comments "When the sun's out, so is the tide!" The whole chemistry at Bridgemarsh in the short time we were there made it a satisfying feeling that not only did I score points with SWMBO but earlier had some great sailing.
