After setting off at 03:15 from the Hadliegh Ray I had reached and crossed the Broomway by 06:20, the kind chatty lady operator of Havingore bridge waved to me as I passed through. Once out of the Narrow Cuts it was time to rest the engine, relax and do some sailing.

My ETA for Bridgemarsh was around 08.30 ish but that soon was discarded as the wind direction was inviting me for a beating match for the remaining journey up the Crouch, which of course I accepted, won and thoroughly enjoyed until the disappointing feeling of passing No15, as it was soon time to hang out fenders and furl the sails.

Finally entered Bridgemarsh marina around 09:20 were I was greeted by Biff and shown my mooring for the next couple of months. SWMBO appeared around 11.00 while I was still fussing tidying the boat, by then the sun had started to re appear and welcomely remained so for the rest of the day.

The regulars at Bridgemarsh were very friendly some saying hello and others stopping for a brief introduction chat, all in all though every encounter a pleasant one. The remaining afternoon I fussed around cleaning off the limpet like Canvey mud that always seemed to be permanently attached to my hull, while SWMBO relaxed in the cockpit reading a book lit up by the sun.

Although she wanted to have a little potter to explore the local scenes, fully understood that I was feeling tired from the early start I had, so was quite contented to relax with the gentle rocking of the boat.

The nod of approval soon came at the bottom of the tide were she noticed we were still afloat! Unlike Canvey where SWMBO always comments "When the sun's out, so is the tide!" The whole chemistry at Bridgemarsh in the short time we were there made it a satisfying feeling that not only did I score points with SWMBO but earlier had some great sailing.

Well done Dave, welcome to Bridgemarsh.
I can assure you that you won't be disappointed - at LWS you will go aground, most definitely.

oooh! Just checked out your profile and see you are Tadpole.... I came passed you on the pontoon on Sunday afternoon and said hello to the woman in the cockpit. I am envious of your black canvass and hull. I'd love to replace mine with black when I have the spare moolies.

Welcome to Bridgemarsh.

We are also Bridgemarsh residents - been there longer than the two upstarts above!

Welcome.

We're off on holiday on thursday, but will stop and say hello next time we and you are there at the same time. There are some really nice and helpful people there - Lisa and Jim, of course, but plenty of others too. You'll soon get to know them.

Ali and Gordon

Hi Jim, as long as she stays upright I'll be happy sure enough. Glad I took the advice from you and everyone here! ;)

Thanks for the welcome Ali & Gordon look forward to meeting you both in person.

I am sure we could lay a visitors mooring on the slopey bit if it makes you happy.

Hi Lisa, Black looks nice but a pig to keep clean, especially when its birthed on a mud mooring!

I nickname TP my Ozzie boat! She's a princes of Darkness with all her black livery!

Jim......Don't go there, I've just made the club put a warning on their website.

Still it could have been worse had the boat been a fixed fin keel!

Dave, could you email eastcoastpilot.com with the update?
Cheers.

I certainly will Jim, but I will first give the club the opportunity, as we have a GC meeting this evening.

However if the response is unsatisfactory you have my personal guarantee I will email ECP the moment I get back home from their meeting.

My what a story to tell over a few pints eh?

I have very fond memories of Bridgemarsh, especially grounding at the entrance on several occassions and having plenty of time to think about theory and reality re tides.
