Switching off Lighthouse @ beachy head

The Royal Sovereign light is in Eastbourne?

Usual high standard of BBC reporting.

I grew up listening to Beachy Head on foggy nights, but I've only ever sailed past it a few times.

I think you may have mis-read the article, in it they suggest that Beachy Head light will be switched off and the Royal Sovereigh Light output increased to compensate.

It's all very well turning the wick up a bit at Royal Soverereign, but it still has a useless light characteristic - single flash every 20s. Nigh imposssible to take a bearing on.

Maybe it would be Ok to turn off the lighthouse if it is replaced with a South Cardinal.

After all, that's what the Owers has and most people manage to miss the rocks.

I think the critical thing Is the note tha says that at any one place only one visible light need to be visible so I guess every body better brush up on running fixes doubling angle on the bow Be cause when Those faulty gps satelits pack in !

As an Eastbourne lad, I'd be sad to see it go. Many a romantic assignation was started on the cliffs - "just come and look at the lighthouse"

The view downwards was enough to send the YL swooning...
