Swinging moorings in Poole Harbour - opinions

Genuinely - why are you arguing about this?

I occasionally read this forum and have contributed when I think I had something relevant to say but when a post descends into "my cruising gound is better than yours" or "your boat is crap and mine is the dogs bollocks" you have to ask what is the point?

If you don't like Poole, don't go there. Just spare us the guff. Life's too short.
 
After being so sure on Poole we've now completely ruled it out based on what has been said here.

We've been enjoying the Solent for the last few years, and I believe we'd become very despondent if it took 6 hours to get there, especially as Newtown River is our favorite anchorage. We would also like to explore further east - Bembridge, Hayling Island etc. I agree, the Solent is not as picturesque as Poole Harbour or the Jurassic coast but I agree with what has been said here - once you leave the harbour the options become few and far between, particularly in a small slow boat like mine.

Add to the mix that we're both novice sailors, so what takes some people 4 hours will take us well over 6 I imagine. I don't fancy beating home to Poole on a Sunday evening hoping we make it back in time for Monday morning. Also add to the mix we live 12 miles from Poole Harbour and in the summer, that journey will take well over 45 minutes. Southampton, despite being 28 miles away should only 35 minutes.

you're always welcome in Chichester, in a perfect world our boats might meet up and we'd show you around; one top tip if you visit, forget East Head anchorage unless you like ulcers ( I suppose it works in the same positive way as I regard football stadiums, it keeps all the ' argumentative types ' in one avoidable place for a while ) , there are much better quiet spots not far away.
 
I managed to keep a Jaguar 25 in Poole for 17 years, all of which were on "deep water" moorings. First year was with a mooring from Arthur Bray, then spent a few years at Lilliput Yacht Station. When that closed down we moved up the harbour to Lake Yard. Living in mid Somerset for most of that time meant an hour and a half drive each way.

Never had the boat broken into, not many times I couldn't get out to the boat in the dinghy, and always happy to sleep onboard on the mooring on the rare occasions we didn't head off points east, west, or south.

Whatever floats yer boat, as the saying goes. :encouragement:
