Swim platforms Why.

[Until the wife fell overboard at 4 am one winter morning. I jumped straight over the back onto the platform and grabbed her. Getting her aboard was so easy.

Ours was handy when the dog jumped from boat to pontoon... and missed... went headfirst into the drink. He was swimming away from the boat and I am told that I said.. "I suppose I'm going in after him".... anyway, I got on the platform, ready to get in, when he came swimming around the corner and scrambled on with a bit of help.

Was I a hero with SWMBO?.. you bet!

Re: Swim platforms Why.

How long before the group of certifiably insane morons we call a government come up with a tax for the square footage of your swim platform, same way there are rumours that they plan to tax patios etc on houses.???

Well,

I like a swim platform of a reasonable size. That is to say about 30 inches. This allows safe transit onto/off the boat. easy handling of tender and engine, ease at locks etc. Anything under 16 inches is, for me, a real problem.

I do love the idea of a large swim platform but I recently looked at a 28ft Doral with a 6ft 6inch swim platform, that was simply Bonkers! With the price of mooring these days it was just stupid! On a 45ft boat or larger it would be great. On a sub 30ft boat it was barking.

I have now gone off large tea trays stuck on the back /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

To put the black water tank in of course, so don`t try cutting it off or you will really be in the poooooo! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Don't forget, they all have to have pram handles too.

Small boats are going through what happened to cars in the 80's, everything gets a spoiler, if they could have put a spoiler on buses they would have done, and side skirts and bonnet bulges....

On boats it is headlights (idiots!) pram handles and swim platforms.

I must admit to a bit of sniggering when I see them.

Those sugar-scoop sterns look very similar to bathing platforms - and I just walked past a Bav 44 which had something very similar to a bathing platform glued on the back (but it was too dark to take a photo).

You don't do much groping up deserted creeks after dark then . . .

Or does that large dick have a built-in direction finder?
(that's for those who relish a double entendre. . .)
