We are the new owners of a Beneteau Swift Trawler 42 and are testing our new boat. Being newcomers to motor boats we are trying to figure out how the fresh water system works. There are two tanks, two gauges, but only one fresh water hose to the pump and no visible valve to switch between tanks. Can anyone with a Swift let me know what happens when you are using the water. Do both tanks empty at the same time? Does the port water tank empty and then the starboard tank? Is there a valve to switch between tanks. Help out there.

welcome to the Forum.

Does "new" mean new to you, or are you the first owner ? If the latter, then in the former case I'd give a quick call to the broker or previous owner, elsewise it's down to the agency.

The piping may have been modified by a previous owner from the standard layout, but it's normal to have valves to control the tankage separately, otherwise water transfers from the uphill side into the lower tank.

Do you have two filler points ?

It's a brand new 2007 boat with two separate tanks and gauges, however there is no switch over valve and I understad that one tank when one tank is empty the pump automatically draws from the second. Are there any Swift 42 owners who know how it works on the Swift Trawker?

I realize that this is a very old thread but, for what it's worth, our 2012 ST44 has 2 fresh water tanks, 1 guage, and 1 filler port.
The tanks are connected low with one open hose, so the tanks should always have the same volume. I guess that the connection hose is of such a small diametete that rolling seas won't cause an imbalance.

OK, my boat is a sailing boat so is different. I also have two tanks, and only one filler, but I can select which tank the pump is drawing from. Any sensibly designed system should surely be able to isolate the tanks.
