Swell / Wave prediction websites

This is the best, imho.
Almost worth cruising the Med just to use it...
...as if there weren't other good reasons!

Windfinder pro and wind guru. The former I use most and accuracy is excellent, be it in the Med or back home in UK waters.

Brittany,CIs and south coast of UK I find passage weather to be pretty good. I also am trying to use Windy.tv but they keep adding so much detail and options I begin to lose faith and that all of this is additional info is getting a bit overcomplicated and so less dependable. Too many scale colourings and I cant tell if it is some sort of blue or some sort of purple!

Your replies have been so helpful. Thank you.

I have always used meteo, but felt I need to check other sites as well. Why? We're in Binic (just adore the place) and have been neaped for the last 5/6 days which has suited out plans. But now we need to reuturn by 29th Sept given family is coming over to G to spend time with us.

So, Binic to St PP (or better still, straight to Beaucette if tide permits). And although there's a break in the wind, there seems to be some horrid swell and wave mix being thrown around. Hence wanting to check other reliable sites.

So thank you everyone. We'll keep on top of this and if you're watch AIS you might just see us setting out later this coming week. Otherwise we'll stay in Binic, safe and sound, fully protected, with a great village to enjoy.

Passageweather

Bear in mind they all use the same 3 models.

Passage weather lets you switch between the 3 which I find useful if it is marginal and I want to get a more informed point of view

Leaving Binic at 0615 UK for St Peter Port, ETA 1430 UK.

Swell and wave prediction has stayed the same apart from a 10cm build up south of Guernsey. I'll let you know what transpires.

Again, thanks for the website recommendations. Really helpful in the decision making.

We used xcweather; Meteo Coastal; Passage weather; Windy.

Meteo and Passage forecast agreed within a fraction. Windy was a tad difficult to interpret although their spot forecasts turned out to be spot on, giving a good visual impact.

Reality was:
Binic - exactly as forecast
Mid-way, exactly as forecast
Guernsey - less than forecast

Result? Forecast could be trusted, with a reality of as forecast or better than forecast.

Thanks for the help! Piers (and happy crew)

Interestingly, on my Isles of Scilly trip this year the only site that was accurate (and it never usually is for me) was the Met Office. I would get the Beaufort and direction and then also use the coastal forecast for sea state. It was bang on... I had been using Predict Wind, but it has 4 forecasts to choose from and I found it difficult to find one that worked with the conditions.

As far as I know there are three global weather models that everyone uses

Some people sell higher resolution forecasts but I am a little sceptical as the the actual forecasting resolution. There are some local variations I suspect in coastal regions where a local forecaster may mke some amends. For example in Mallorca there are lots of local winds caused by the mountains / high sided bays to the extent that one side of a headline can frequently be blowing 180degrees to the other. These are never on passage weather but might be somewhere or other on another site.

Yes exactly, local conditions! Thank you jrudge for post #18. I was struggling to find words to say something similar, rather than just voting for this website or that, but your post was more eloquent than my draft.
