Hi All

Last year we purchased a Beneteau gt 38. Had a great season however the only downside was the Microwave and lack of good home cooking. I have removed the microwave and measured the space for a replacement oven. My wife would like to swap the microwave for a more traditional small electrical oven.

My question - Will the heat created from an oven (cooking a roast chicken as an example) cause issues to the GRP of the boat. When I remove the old microwave you can easily touch the inside of the GRP hull. Any advice is welcome :-)

A layer of calcium silicate board or Skamotec will protect the hull even against a log burner. Thinnest available is 25mm.

Have a look at the features of a convection microwave, grills, oven cooks and microwaves. If our decades old one ever fails, I wouldn’t hesitate to replace it with similar.

Every appliance that gives off heat like an oven will have clearance needs. Find an appliance that fits and then look at the manufacturers installation instructions for clearances required. Then measure up.
Most installation manuals can be found on line.

Our case was the reverse, no microwave but built in gas oven. Our solution, for when 220VAC available, is a worktop plug in halogen oven. Ours is a Daewoo, I regularly cook chickens(roast in bag up to 1.5kg), roast beef, toad in holes,, baked spuds, home made fries etc it has a fan so mimics a fan assisted oven and a tad faster than regular one. power consumption 1300W . Although we have a generator and could use it off grid we don't in practice.

We did just that!

We went to Argos and got one of those mini-ovens, it fit in perfectly, with about 30mm clearance to the sides and about 60mm clearance on the top. We tested the oven first on full blast for an hour and it didn't warm up the GRP / Timber on the sides, however to be safe, we e-bayed adhesive foil exhaust shield which was about 5mm thick... it was actually designed to put on motorbikes and it did the job nicely... you can't even see it on the boat (don't have pics, sorry).

Exhaust shield: Alchemy Parts Self Adhesive Exhaust Engine Heat Shield Sheet 40 x 33cm Ideal for Motorbike, Car - Aluminium & Reflective : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

I combined all of the above with this. Does everything!

Sage The Combi Wave 3 in 1

As the cooling spaces required are quite large the cupboard it was fitted to was fitted with a bank of small extractor fans
Do you have photos please?

I purchased a small combi for our other caravan that doesn't have an oven, but I never fitted it because I know it'll fail pretty quickly in the confined space.

Sure, it may be a shortwhile till I am next back, remind me if I havent replied within a week or two. But I used 2 x 4" bathroom extractor fans. I to blow from underneath and another venting from the side.

What? You think I went to a Swiss Finishing School for pirates? That there is genuwhine Saffer accent refined through many years of the Anglican Church's finest bloody boarding school down there on the ass end of Africa. Lekker innit? Amazing what 4 hours of Latin Mass every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will do for you and this before your balls have even dropped. Thankfully my choir voice is reminiscent of tyre squeal so I evaded the attention of Tutu et al and survived proudly intact. Anyway you should hear your old crone voice on the phone. Put a chap right off his beer!
