The main commercial docks right alongside.
You enter the same channel but take an early turn to port - so its really in the same place.
Its opens later this year.
I can vouch that the staff and people at Swansea are first class - a professional friendly caring attitude - I think its the best marina around but then I am biased.
With Swansea Marina - the Yacht Club Marina and the new marina all basically joined together the capacity will exceed 1200 boats.
When it opens we will come down for a visit. We usually visit Swansea once or twice a season but havent got round to it the last couple of years. Is the small pontoon just outside the Tawe lock still there? We have spent the night on there when arriving out of hours before now.
The visitors berths are like living in the middle of a building site and the loos are a hell of a long way for an incontinent ! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Ken
Gludy Will be visitin my daughter in Carmarthern and have seen variuos boats of interest for sale in the Marina, what puts me off to some extent are the tidal streams in the BristolChannel. My great grandfather was chief constable of Swansea and I have never been there so a chance to see the town and have a look at some boats!
There are two mooring bouys in the river if you arrive late at night. The water depth there should be good enough for most yatchs with draughts less than 2 metres.
But don't arrive at 6pm on a good weather Sunday, the queue to get in takes an hour plus sometimes (like last night)
They have not yet dug out a new lock for the new marina. So don't hold your breath on that one yet.
Tidal streams are worse in Channel Is area IMO /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Not too bad from Swansea down anyway. Look on the bright side: there aren't many places that will give you 15-17 miles for free on a spring tide /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
And Gower, Pembroke and Lundy are superb cruising areas - the match for anywhere I reckon (but don't tell the Solent crowds /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )
