Could be the yobbos in big power boats who drive through the moorings & anchored boats at full speed, mostly heading off to Poole.

I always found Swanage less of a problem than Studland as far as speedboat or ski boat types were concerned, even PWCs the only thing was curiosity from the local hire boats circling but IIRC they only have a 4hp motor so no problem. The North corner of the bay might be quieter but then it is a long way from shoreside attractions or the YC, might be more sheltered up there tooo from say NW winds?

We often used to anchor in Swanage as SWMNOs parents holiday there. The anchorage off the town is very rolly even I have a SW and the holding poor. IMO if you don't need the shops then Studland is usually a better option
