Swale Sailing

My advice would be to forget Conyer and Whitstable, but anchor in the East Swale, near, but not too near, the yacht moorings just west of the mouth of Faversham creek. You'll stay afloat and you can dinghy up to the Shipwight's Arms for a restorative glass or two.

Ah. Hokay. Well, having spoken to Swale Marina, they say they dredged last year and that we shouldn't have any problem getting out at about HW-1. With any luck, that will see us well on our way, unless of course we have problems with the bridge.

That said, the ideal is to have as little ebb in the Thames as possible, so as long as I'm in deepish water by the time the tide turns (I think once up toward the bridge we should be alright) I'll be happyish. Even if it means loitering around waiting for the bridge. Obviously with the Thames one wants to carry as much flood as possible!

Not a bad idea, actually. I just won't get any sleep (wooden boat + chain scraping the riverbed = very loud noises & huge paranoia)!!

Oh no not Ramsgate !

Don't go to Ramsgate if you can avoid it - filthy, hugely pricey, very unhelpful - we've had the misfortune several times and will never go again
