SW Sunk Crossing

Has anyone used the above crossing point this year and can confirm Tiller Girl's excellent chartlet is still valid re depths and waypoints.

Yes, Alan Wilson from the Tollesbury Mudpluggers crossed back in March and kindly provided some data of his crossing. This suggests that depths have reduced over the winter. I have plotted the data as an overlay on my chart but I had not released it publicly as I was planning a passage out there next Friday weather permitting.

However, the chart is available and I can send it to you if you pm me with an email address.

Alan and I use different data to do the reduction to chart datum. The last thing I want to do is suggest anything wrong with Alan's method but it results in a worst depth on my recommended track of 2.0m with less water (worst 1.5m) on a parallel track to the South West. My methodology of Alan's data suggests a worst depth at CD on my recommended track of 2.6m (and 2.1 on the parallel track).

Who is more accurate you may well ask? It would be invidious to suggest that I am right and Alan is wrong; Alan will not even be aware of this thread. At 2.0 at CD on the recommended track there is more water than at the Spitway but we do not know if the swatch has also narrowed.

As I say I plan to get down there next week weather permitting and hopefully then I can be more precise.

It doesn't matter about pm'ing me the data, the worst case scenario still gives me enough water at the time I will be crossing.

Crossed today at about 1915A. Found 0.6m under keel (with offset for 1.4m) least depth on the line between the two waypoints so would coincur with 2m or thereabouts.

Barometer was dropping too - fell 12mb in 12 hours from leaving Calais to arriving in B'sea. No wonder the wind is now whistling in the rigging.

I crossed it yesterday morning, 2 hours after LW, and the least depth I got was 4m.
