I have a one of those common Suzuki 2.5 HP outboards for our tender, it is four years old but has only had about four hours use and has not been out of the locker this summer. Probably a silly purchase as I like to row and the Avon is a lot easier to carry above the tide line without it. Despite running the engine in the canal to flush it after each trip when it was used, I have been disappointed to discover that the paint on the lowest 6 inches of the leg around the prop. is blistered and peeling.
I will scrape it off prime and repaint it black (or perhaps red) but this is a small niggly job so what can I get in reasonable quantities to prime and paint it that has a chance of staying in place?

I have always painted outboards with rattle cans and it lasts at least as long as original finish.

self etch primer then colour of your choice, black easiest to match. A decent motor factor should carry cans of both or there are plenty of ebay shops just search etch primer or acid etch.

make sure you thoroughly degrease everything first.

Typical Suzuki paint job, our DF6 did the same but all over! Ideally, have it grit or soda blasted and then etching primer and, as said above, paint colour of your choice. May be use a different colour so you can easily identify at spring boat jumble:D

or if you dont have a grit blaster use a wire brush fitting in the end of a drill. what you want to remove is that white oxidation that aluminium forms to protect itself. then get the first coat of acid etch on quickly. bish bash bosh job done.

Mine was the same, I scraped and rubbed down the affected area. I bought some spray can aluminium etch primer and sprayed it on then several coats of spray can black and it is as good as new. It has lasted all season.
