I have a new to me Suzuki DT3.5 2 stroke, circa mid 80s. I put in a new impeller, and it seems to be reasonably cool on the cylinder walls, but there seems to be no tell-tale water flow. There is a screw under the power head which, when removed allows lots of water and hot gasses out, and there is a hole next to it that nothing comes out of.
Does anyone have direct experience of these engines and can tell me if there is supposed to be a tell-tale peeing continuously, or is it supposed to be entirely continent?

Have you tried probing the hole with a drill bit or similar? It may be that the telltale is blocked and needs clearing. Also look at the leg, there’s usually a vent about half way down it: with the engine running you should get a bit of spray and gas coming through it. The tailtale is there more to provide you with confidence that the water is circulating rather than being important from the cooling system functioning: most of the cooling water is injected into the leg to cool the exhaust gasses.

I have poked the hole. It seems clear, but without taking the power head off I can't even be sure it's meant to be a tell-tale unless someone here has owned one and has the facts.
I have the parts book (uninformative on the matter) but no operators manual.

I have one of these motors and its service manual. The water flow diagram in the service manual shows water being expelled through the exhaust below the water line. AFAIK, there's no tell tail pisser. From memory (I'm at work), the service manual shows the screw under the power head as a way to confirm that water is flowing as expected.

ITYWF that the screw plug is the place to fit a hose connector for flushing.

The Suzuki dt2.2 I have discharges most of the cooling fluid our under water, but "spits" water out half way down the leg. It certainly isn't a stream

I was given a Suz 3.5 2T, it had over heated and siezed. I had the bore honed to true it up and raked out the passegways. Must look to see if it has a tell-tail !!
I will do it this am. It is still in bits.

Just had a look. No tell-tail and the blanking plug is for flushing as it is before the water circulates through the head and cylinder.
