Can I replace the water pump impeller by just unbolting the lower gear housing and dropping the drive shaft, gear shift rod and cooling water supply?
The service manual shows power head being removed before replacing the impeller, which superficially at least, seems like a much bigger job.
I seem recall seeing a YouTube video of the impeller being replaced without taking the power head off, but I'm worried about getting the drive shaft and other bits back in.
Has anyone done this before?

I recall trying to do the job without removing the power head and found I couldn’t get it apart without removing the power head. IIRC it was the pipe from the water pump to the power head that needed removing from its seating between the leg and the power head that drove the need to spilt it. Not difficult to do, just a few bolts to undo and the leg comes away. Been a few years since I did the job which was only done to sort the engine out for sale. Didn’t like the engine as the Admiral couldn‘t start the damn thing, so it had to go and was replaced by a 20 year old Suzuki 2 stroke.

Apparently you have to remove the powerhead in order to disconnect the shift rod but its no big deal

See the manual on the Boatinfo website
