I have a friend whose outboard (above) started first pull just now after the winter lay-up, but no cooling water appeared.

I suspect an impeller problem (possibly vanes stuck in the pump and damaged) even though he says it was all perfect when last run. It has been regularly flushed through with fresh water after use so it's unlikely to have a salt build-up, but we have checked the 'pee-hole' just in case.

I have no problem stripping down O/B's normally but haven't come across this one before.

So my questions are, how do I remove the lower leg section on this model to get at the pump impeeler, is there a website that'll give me access to a workshop manual, or does anyone out there have a copy I could borrow and copy?

Thanks in advance! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi Simon,

Thanks for that but it was the first thing we tried! No, it looks like we have to get at and replace the impeller - it's just how to access it!!

There is a Yamaha / Suzuki forum at iBoats which might be worth a try if you don't get any help here. Nothing like as active as the Mercury/ Mariner and the Evinrude/Johnson forums though.

Don't know if it helps but I have been involved in just the same job on my 2hp Yam.

Basically the 2 bolts holding the gearbox onto the leg assembly came off easy enough but the 'box its self gave every impression oh having been welded in position.

Eventually after inserting every wedge shaped tool I could find, using plenty of easing oil and hours of careful tapping the g/box came away from the leg with the anti cavitation plate loose as a separate component.

I now have another 'separation' issue as I can't get the wretched drive shaft to come off the drive 'stub' that sticks out of the gearbox and impellor assembley.

Good luck..Nick

Hi Nick,

I too have a Yam 2 and have no problem sorting that one out. The Suzuki however, has a 4 bolt connection at the bottom end but also a plate halfway down the leg to release the gear 'lever'. I need to know whether the assembly will then drop clear once this has been done.

Good luck with your Yammy!
