I have just bought a 2hp Suzuki 2 stroke outboard nice and cheap on ebay. Starts easily, runs nicely, lightweight and simple, no neutral/gearshift....she starts, you go. Lovely. But - very very little water coming out of the telltale, just a very fine spray/steam and some exhaust gas. Any ideas? The impeller is new....Even if I rev it up theres not much water coming out /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Thats Ok my suzuki 2 does the same it has from new. Very little water comes out.

No steam though. I have had mine overheat and seize due to salt in the waterways around the cylinder, easy to take head off and clean them out with a length of wire. Once cooled down engine turned over fine after the seizure.

My Suzuki 2.2 is the same. You will need to make sure the telltale holes don't salt up as they are very small. I usually carry a short length of fine wire in case they need unblocking.

With this engine you never get more than a fine spray coming out of the holes on the back of the outboard leg. They are just tell-tales - the bulk of the water goes straight down the leg.

They are just tell-tales

[/ QUOTE ] They are really just exhaust relief holes. Just a little water is carried out by the exhaust gases exiting that way.

The engine does not have what is normlly called a telltale or "pee hole" which would produce a constant jet of water.

Without a pee hole, or even with one, one must keep an eye open for an absence of water from the relief hole and or apearance of steam. Either indicates a problem.

They are very robust little engines. My first was dropped overboard, dried out & restarted. It ran for years after, but needed the points replacing when they fell to bits. Eventually, it seized one winter & I got another. Several years later I gave it to a pal, who stripped it, whacked the piston free with a lump of wood & is still using it today.
