Suzuki 2.5 hp

Have decided that the Suzuki is a flawed design. It really hurt my wrist yesterday. Looking for a good 2 stroke, will try and get a new one from the channel islands.

My Suzuki regularly snatches back even when I commence the main pull from the point of compression. I must try the partial rewind technique advised earlier in this thread. Can also confirm snatching started after the first service when the workshop lowered the idle speed.

I purchased the Suzuki because it was much lighter than my previous 2.5 4-stroke Yamaha. The Yamaha was prone to snatchback and those were painful events, the same on the Suzuki are much weaker and hence just annoying,

There is no adjustment of the mixture possible on these engines, our tree hugging friends in california are to blame.

You are right, I had forgotten that the adjustment screw was sealed off with a small ball at manufacture but I was told that there is the posibilty of tweeking the mixture by drilling out the ball which gives access to an adjustment. However I would treet this info with care as may be urban myth.

Plenty of YouTube vids showing how to drill out the blanking plug if you want to. I've not done it with my DF2.5 which runs fine but I would do if I felt it was necessary.

Have persevered with this little bu..er. It still has the most dreadful snatch but has also developed another strange fault. Sometimes there is no compression at all. You can pull the cord really easily and whilst the engine is obviously turning over there is very low resistance. Maybe valves sticking open? Is there a decompression device in these? Had to paddle, 2 hours later it started first pull?!!?

Another sailor saw me struggling and came over to say they had had one but it was so bad they took it back to the dealer. They now have the 3.5 Mariner which is much better.

What makes some of these engines good whilst others are so bad?

I wonder if it does have some kind of automatic decompression system for starting and yours is sticking shut and then open? The Mariner does have something like that but I've never heard Suzuki refer to it.

Perhaps a call to an approved Suzuki dealer would be worthwhile?
