I'v had a Suunto watch for 7 years and it has been completely reliable so in that sense good value for money. I'm not sure about GPS in a watch though, I would imagine setting up waypoints and planned tracks would be quite laborious using 4 buttons and if you have access to a PC why not just plug a GPS into that?

probably a great idea if you own a watch battery warehouse I have a core which has been ok, however display issues and having one fail after 2 weeks would put me off buying again.
