If one had a choice of these two marinas in Plymouth which would you choose and why? Very interested to know more of Sutton Harbour - is it a good place for a 12m yacht for a permanent mooring? Is the parking okay? Is it secure? loos and poos okay?

I have always liked Sutton - very snug and well protected. Disadvantage is having to lock in/out all the time. Not a lot of parking either.

QAB..nice but long walk to Barbican and nightlife, easy access. Sutton, lock in out and you shre with fishing boats. Closer to fleshpots. Have berthed in both, but Sutton form the long term and QAB for visist

Sutton; lock in and out, very secure, parking is wide open to passersby, potential yobbish noise, can be very roudy in the barbican.... Looks tidy, not as expensive as the others... though close.
QAB; loos/showers not too good, great cafe, good pub, bit tight for manouvering, swell can affect the pontoons even with the wall....

The best place is Plymouth yacht haven..... or maybe Mayflower....

PYH, less open to the wind than QAB, less noise than Sutton, easier access than either, water taxi across to the barbican... secureish parking, very good loos and showers, good services.

All three are a bit full, so get yer application in now...

dont know about Sutton, but QAB has quite tight acces to the berths. OK if you have a bow thruster, but it was interesting getting right down to the carpark end of the fairway inside the breakwater wall, when we visited in the summer.

The bar food was good.

I was waiting for others, who might sum it up better than me.

Only visited both of them. Bit daft cos I'm in YH too.

Sutton. Cant think where every one parks. I've heard of yobs nicking things off boats. Other wise very central. Friday night is brill, you can see all the girls laying on the floor with a tit hanging out, before being escorted into the black maria.

QAB. No access to the town after about 9pm, they close the bridge to keep yobs out. Cafe, good for beans on toast.

Restraunt/bar. Over priced, none yuppies need not attend.

You mean here. Bit of a sod to get out from!!

I do, that very spot!

My boat was berthed at QAB before I bought her, over on the pontoon that has the fuel barge at the end.

I thought it was a bit tight reversing out on the sea trial.

Mrs HLB looks happy, I assume she is Mrs HLB or you are in trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nah, just a floosy I got in for the night. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

It took a fair few HP to get me out, once the wind got hold. Thought I'd chuffed it at one point. You cant actually dither about a bit.

The Barbican lock gate is currently being refurbished so access is only at high tide. If you don't want to go anywhere it's a great place!

Plenty of pubs and restaurants (checkout the Souk) although this means noise late at night. Seems to be quieter these days as Mutley seems to be the place for drinking and lying on the floor.

I've used the bridge after 9pm, though the walk round is hardly taxing!!
