Hi Is it o.k. to ask for a recommendation for a surveyor for the Eastbourne area on this forum.I am interested in a yacht based there and would like a "straight talkin" type of person.

Graham Whittington of Southern Marine Engineering is a practical straight talking type and very easy to talk to! He operates from Shoreham, West Sussex, Mobile 07966518426. I have just had a boat surveyed by Nick Vass who I found to be very friendly, professional and thorough. That was at Bursledon but I don't think he would mind travelling anywhere on the S. Coast. His mobile number is 07702 915524. He gave lots of "off the record" advice which I found very useful and interesting. Whomever you choose please make sure that they are YBDSA or MIIMS registered as your insurers will insist on that. We came very close to booking an unregistered guy and would have had to pay out for two surveys ( you're learning all the time in this boating malarkey ! )

I think the guy you want is Graham Whittington. I haven't used him myself.... yet, but he was recommended to me by a friend and he will be surveying Damarri as soon as I get her down to Eastbourne. I spoke to him a couple of days ago so I know he does Eastbourne and he is certainly straight talking! You can get him on 07966 518426.
