Or, if the boat has a class association, find out if they know surveyors who are familiar with the type; all designs have their foibles
Make sure you get at least two references. Has he got Professional Indemnity insurance. What experience has he in the boat you want him to survey. Is he a member of a professional body.
Read the Institute of International Marine Surveyors guidelines. OR do what most everybody else does and hope for the best with he who has been deified this week. BoL
