Can someone please recommend a surveyor that works not a million miles away from Lincoln, or that would be prepared to travel there.

Surveyor ideally should be familiar with mid-sized Sealines or similar, and ideally VolvoMort engines, although I appreciate that's probably a separate job to check out engines and drives.

Thanks,
Dave.

My first thoughts would be Burton Waters http://www.burtonwaters.co.uk assuming that's not who you are buying from.

Henry :)

Ian Lumley is your man.

He is very familiar with Sealines and did the survey for my F33 . He isn't a mechanical engineer but he did inspect the outdrives and included a test run .
Burton Waters don't have their own surveyor.

OK Dave, what's the story? Are we changing boats? :D

VolvoPaul did the engine survey on the boat we bought in Lincoln. He's not too far away.

If buying from Burton waters, don't use their tame surveyors. Their cards are in the office

Dave...Mike Chadwick did ours when we bought Lisilou from Burton Waters. He was very thorough so he gets my recommendation. I assume he's still around. Tel 07798 897397

Ricky Tropman is a local surveyor to Burton waters , I haven't git his number but he is from Chesterfield area.

What boat are you looking at , might be one I know even an ex clients.

As a general note, there are pros and cons in bringing in a local surveyor. For maximum impartiality it might be worth considering someone from further afield.

Thanks for the recommendations: I've asked Mike Chadwick to look at the boat, and VolvoPaul will look at the engines and drives.

Hmm, my comment might have appeared awkward in the immediate context. The reason behind it was that some time ago I was looking at a boat in Spain and asked Jim Pritchard to have a look at it. He did and found defects that were substantial enough for me to reject the said boat. In that particular case I was pleased to have brought in an, to a reasonable extent, outsider who did not deal with the local brokers and boating community on a daily basis.

Never had the pleasure of dealing with Mr. Chadwick but have done so with VolvoPaul and can only add my highest recommendations of his work.
