Does anyone have any personal recommendations for a GOOD marine surveyor experienced and understanding of sailing cats. Preferably based in Cyprus or if not I might have to consider Turkey based.
Wayne

This was sent out as part of the Vasco De Gamma rally info:

Mustafa Kaya, Technical Manager of the Alanya Marina is a certified surveyor and a member of the Chamber of Turkish Naval Architects & Marine Engineers. If convenient for you, Mr. Kaya can perform such a survey. The costs for a survey is according the official pricelist: Loa (feet) x Beam x Usd 1.00 .

Don't know anything else. i.e is he any good etc.

Thanks for that miyagimoon, someone else may chime in with further info.
I havent found one in Cyprus yet but am still looking.
I was thinking about the possibility of doing the Vasco De Gama in 2013 to try and dodge the cold a little but we will see.

Hi Wayne, its me again. Just another thought. Perhaps you might just hang on untill you get here and then ask around. That is if nothing comes up in the meantime.

Sent you an e-mail.

Cheers

Hi Wayne I have used International Yacht Surveys on numerous occasions .The last survey they done for me was in France on a catamaran. They are good at what they do. If you do not have any luck try google RINA YDSA IIMS and others. What cat is it?

Hi Crabman
Thanks for that I have found one surveyor in Cyprus on the IIMS list a Marc Caramondanis. I have not yet established if he surveys small yachts or if he only does super tankers or kzillion dollar floating palaces but I will.
So thanks for the heads up that was helpful. Also don't know if he is regarded as GOOD or not, maybe somebody may have some information they can share.

The boat is Kiki 1 a FP Belize 43 cat.
Kindest regards
Wayne

Hey Crabman were International Yacht Surveys reasonably priced considering the travel and accommodation costs involved?
I have emailed them so I will see what they say but just for comparison purposes it would be nice to know.
Kind regards
Wayne

Hi Wayne ,I was happy with the price I was charged .They found faults on the boat and I was able to negociate a fair price with the broker and owner. It saved me time and travel employing them. As to travel and accommadation ,they charged me the cost of the travel and accommadation. Im happy with there services and I will use them again. :)

Thanks for the input guys that is always helpful.
Just for the record and for the benefit of any who track down this post I ended up using Fergus Prescott from Gocek Turkey to do the survey in Northern Cyprus and I can recommend him.
His website details are http://oceancraft.org.uk/about_us.htm and email is
fergusprescott@superonline.com
Tell him AussieWayne recommended him.
Best wishes to all those who follow.
I hope you find your dream boat and manage to get out there cruising.
