Here is a challenge for you all.

There is a 25ft Carvel sloop for sale in Baku for 5K. No other details apart from a statement from the owner saying says is in excellent nick. (thinks "where have I heard that before")
Furthers details have been requested.

Now a buddy and I are going to Baku in September for a year and would love to sail on the Caspian but I would like to get the vessel looked at.

Any ideas? What should we be looking out for on a wooden boat if we have to check it out ourselves?

Probably no tides there so get her ashore somehow, fill her with water, see what comes out. For that price, in that place, I should think anything that isn't made of fruit cake would be a fun buy.

One of my mates is working out there at the moment.. but not a surveyor.. and not boaty.. but an engineer.. He's back this weekend for few weeks home leave but might take a look at it for you.. he wont have a clue about rig and stuff like that.
