Hi all - does anyone know a respected, perhaps independent marine surveyor who can assess the damage caused to my aluminium hulled powerboat recently? Sadly, when marina staff were moving another boat the stern lines were untied from mine, left loose and it swung into another vessel which tore the vinyl wrap and dented the aluminium.

The marina are good people and usually very diligent but I do need to get this sorted by their insurance so all help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It’s been my experience that insurance companies send their own surveyors. Just ask a repair yard to give you an estimate and then compare it to the insurance offer and then argue the difference. Unless you fear that the integrity of the hull is at stake

David Cox does most of the insurance work down here. He is a top surveyor - full Naval Architect, etc.. - I would give him a call. All the main companies use him and he will make sure that you are looked after regarding the repair. He does the odd purchase survey but most of his work is assessing insurance work and overseeing the rebuilds and repairs.
As Bouba said, your insurers will probably appoint their own surveyor.
