Survey

Looking to buy a 8 year old Windy.
I have been given a surveyors name (via verbal engine inspection report), booked him and posted the bankers draft.
Question is - do I need to talk to the chap when he's done the job or is it OK to rely purely on the written report, with its jargon etc.
As this process is new to me, any info greatfully received.

All the surveyors i have used in the past have called me after they have done the survey and bascially read over their notes over the phone... then confirmed all in writing...

That way you can ask questions on any things that you want a bit mroe clarification of!

Otherwise... give them a call when you have the report in your mits.. most of them i have found to be very helpful...

yesyes, talk by phone, then you can askem the difficult questions that they hate face to face like "would you buy it?" and "is it a good deal?" or "so you saying that it's a death-trap" and so forth

I've always found surveys a bit of a let down. If it's in the water, they just say. Could not check bottom. If its out they say. Could not check engines. Or not electic to check this or that. If some thing does not work. Thats as much as you get. Not why it does not work. If thers some where hard to get at. It's not checked. The only thing it said when I bought my boat was words to the effect of. It being a bit dirty where the water had dripped off the fly bridge over the winter. Nothing about it having two gearboxes in it that even V*lv* said were crap.
