Surely I\'m not the only

wife who loves sailing???

I'm new to this forum, and fairly new to sailing, but I've learned fast that a lot of fellas seem to get a lot of stick from their other halves 'cos they sail.

Come on girls - back me up! I can't be the only one who loves to get out on the boat and raise sail.

Sailing is great for our marriage, we spend more time together and in the company of many new friends, and we have so much fun.

You stay at home wives don't know what you're missing! Why should the men have all the fun?

Look out guys .....

Sufrragettes around the corner .....

They'll be chaining to our guardlines soon.

Actually I have a russian wife who likes boating - not so much the heeling over and getting decks wet bit .... but she does not want to be left behind ..... (not like the first missus I had !! - always moaned and found other things for me to do when I wanted to go of boating .....)

Good for you lass - I wish there were many more sharing the sheets with their hubbies .... OOPS !!!

SWMBO - she who must be obeyed - pejorative term for 'er indoors
HWMBO - Captain Bligh look-alike

Some of us love it - sailing that is ! Can't imagine why (other than Captain Bligh attitude - and here speaks the woman who jumped over the side when she'd had enough of 'im ! - was only 3 ft deep at the time) it seems to be a male pastime. I have postulated the garden shed syndrome - put your feet up, light the pipe and leave the dirty washing up.

But as an avid female sailor I think we should abandon the lawn, kids - and work if you can - and go sailing - except when it rains all the time !!

Hi gal....good for you.....my wife decided that after 30 years systematic boating, she'd like to do something else with her summer time. Limits her sailing to two weeks a year....BUT...in every photo of her on board she's got a big smile, so it can't be so bad. It's wonderful for kids, you (we) gain so many skills and capabilities and shared adventures, life is that much richer together. If you want to do something else for a change, do it, the leisure scene is a balance like everything else. He'll be very proud of you anytime you're on board.
Cheers....R

Re: OI .... I\'m Sussex as well yer know ... nm

blimey...the place is crawling with locals, I'm feeling much more at home, 'specially as I'm learning the lingo.

Nigel, if you want to guarantee a place where this particular liberated woman won't follow, get one of those bl**dy gin palaces always throwing thier wash over us outside Chi Marina. I won't come near you...

<Sailing is great for our marriage, we spend more time together and in the company of many new friends, and we have so much fun.>

Same for us. My wife was new to sailing and we took it in very easy stages for the first couple of years, but she is now a firm convert and loves the social aspect plus spending time together. Initially she disliked the intrusion of rafting alongside another boat, but now loves it - seeing it as a chance to meet new people. We've made many new friends along the way.

Year before last she did her first solo night watch, and last month we sailed non-stop from Solent to Brest taking alternate night watches. She has now done Day Skipper (referred to as Dazed Kipper on this forum), VHF, first-aid, and diesel engine maintenance! With nearly 3000 miles in her log book, she's considering doing YM next. What a lucky boy I am!

Mind you, the garden is now a jungle...

Re: Surely I\'m not the only

Hoping that my experience will echo yours. I am extending my sailing interests to cruising in a modest way from dinghy sailing. I only started dinghy sailing because our location in Leeds doesn't really allow close access to cruising type locations and I wanted to be sailing often and regularly. Must admit though, I really enjoy dinghies though they do not appeal to SWMBO and 13 yr old son.

We holiday on Loch Torridon and I take a dinghy to sail. This year I bought an old and v. cheap little 2 berth cruiser and that seams to have done the trick. We all enjoyed that and the family felt safe and secure and kept dry and the dogs looked very at ease! Cruising along with a freshly made coffee in one hand whilst watching the wildlife and listening to the water on the hull made for a very pleasant day.

So we will keep her, make her a bit more comfortable and tidy and see how it develops.

You'll be keeping the boat as well I take it?
