Does anyone have any suggestions for strengthening below the step of a mast in situations where a compression post may not be practical? The boat is a Halcyon 27. Much obliged.

Drop us a PM with your e-mail and I'll mail you some photos of the mods the previous owner did to support the mast on Halcyon 27. It has done the Trans-Atlantic circuit so they must work.
Were are you based, all your details are blank.

Hello there, I've a Halcyon 27 with the same problem. In Mays edition of Sailing Today they reviewed the Halcyon27 and the boat in the review had a hefty bit of stainless under the tabernacle. The owners association have drawings of modifications to the bulkheads and as Brian mentioned in the previous post his has been beefed up but from speaking to him it sounds a bit over the top. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed for this season, I'll leave the backstay tensioner 'till next year. PM me if you want to chat.
Cheers

The Offshore Yacht Owners Association has the plans for the stell supports.

If you go to their web page (www.oycoa.org.uk) you can contact the archive man (me) and we can despatch the drawings.

Hope to see you all as members of the Association.

It is a case of belt and braces plus a bit of string, but mid Atlantic is not the time to decide a bit more stiffening is required. If you think thats over kill you should see the fore stay fixing, plus we run over size rigging as well and two 4 inch cockpit drains. The only thing left of the Offshore boat are hull and deck mouldings, and two bulkheads modified.

h27 mast support

This is an old thread but the question is still the same.
I have recently become a proud custodian of Halcyon 27 in need of some TLC. Among many things I'd like to do is strengthening below the mast tabernacle. I would appreciate a chance to see what others have done, rather than trying to re-invent something on my own. I know there are details on OYCOA site but still can't access to members forum. Can someone assists & send some pics?
Thanks

Re: h27 mast support

Have viewed an H27 that appears to have a bit of mast compression. The mast step is bowed and the bulkhead door is slightly deformed. However, there appears to be some support either side of the bulkhead. Is this original or a later repair?

May be added later, maybe original. The ones on my H27 were added in the US, and are coach bolted to the bulkhead with straight top beam, the carries to support beams under mast joining the two bulkheads. Yours looks well made, so may well be retro fit, If you like I will take some photos of ours. The one thing to check / change is the beam the mast sits on, they tend to go sponge hence the sag.
