I have aquired a diesel heater. I have no inboard engine fitted on the boat. So I need to fit a small tank of 10 ltrs or so. Had a punt around the web and can only find tanks of large capacity. Will I have to have one made? Ideally looking for something off the shelf

Another vote for plastic.
Our engine has a Vetus fuel tank made in white plastic. You can easily see the level of fuel in it which avoids the need for a gauge. Also completely corrosion free. It is held in place with ratchet straps, seems like a very good installation.

I am about to use a 10 litre plastic fuel container for mine. It appears to be made from exactly the same stuff as the 'official' ones, is plenty strong enough and has a flat area on top where the Eberspacher fuel pickup pipe can be mounted. I already had mine but I have seen 10 litre ones recently at my local car parts shop, about £10. I will be holding it down with a stainless steel strap bolted to the locker floor.

IF you want a custom made stainless tank then there is a stainless steel welder on the outskirts of Westbourne.

In the "Old dairy workshops" off Whitechimney Row http://goo.gl/maps/YgDZm

Michael or Greg will know them.

There is also Oliver Taylor ( Taylor Engineering) in Emsworth yacht harbour

Why not a visit to a car breakers yard and choose one from say a diesel Vectra or something for twenty quid or so? Though I have a sneaky feeling that car tanks are plastic now too

I made mine from a standard plastic 20lt fuel container, (found in a skip), and held in a s/s frame. Easy to drill a hole for the Eber standpipe. Remember you must have a breather, as well.

Excellent stuff, thank you people. Plenty for me to be going on with. Need to decide where I'm going to place it in the boat. Space is limited in the cockpit, yet I have a dirty great big space under to cockpit sole where the inboard used to reside. Strangely ther is not tank or any sign of a filler. The only access to the area is by taking the bottom step out of the companion way and crawling in under the sole. I suppose if I got a big enough tank it could be a once a year struggle to fill it!
I'm down at the boat over christmas so I'll sit with a malt and have a ponder........

Barry, I haven't checked this myself but apperently there is a secret locker in the Leisure 23. If you look at the locker under the quarter berth, it ends about halfway down the berth, beyond this there is a void, some people have cut an access hatch to get to it. If you do a search on the LOA you'll find it. Somewhere.
