Looking for a supplier for 5 mm x 4 meters of the above, to replace a rotted floor section.
Google brings up "Holly strips" with youtube link. Not quite what I'm looking for.

It does not have to be holly. Beech, ash or even parana will blend well. However you will have great difficulty sourcing such a small quantity of that section. Have a look at the moulding section in B&Q and you may well find a pine section that will blend in. It will be durable enough if you coat it well, ideally with a dedicated floor varnish. Not sure it is still available but I once used ramin mouldings with teak to create the striped effect. Looks good and is still in use 25 years later!

Thanks for the ideas Tranona. I see that ramin is still available and looks the better match option.

If you want Holly, then use holly. It's available from timber yards and they'll mill it to whatever size you want. (http://www.goodwoodstimber.co.uk/price-list/).

The idea of the strips was they were harder than the teak so on a scrubbed sole, would eventually stand proud to provide more grip. With them varnished, this advantage is lost and other pale woods can be used. But don't use ash, if the coating fails and it does get wet, it turns black and is impossible to recover.
