I would have thought that the Lurssen folk could have come up with a more attractive design than this - she looks like she started off life as a motor yacht, has been chopped and changed a couple of times, and then had three sticks plonked on her as an afterthought.
But I am sure that her new Owner must be delighted with her. At least I hope so.....
Someone suggested on the shipspotters website that she is a sister ship to Athena - if she is, I think Athena does look much better.
there's regularly a couple of guys in knitted jumpers (which struggle to cover ample girth) hanging around on the hammerhead pontoon next to our boat. They have the latest digi SLR cameras with x thousand mm zoom lenses and clearly know the sailing schedules of the cargo vessels.
So they arrive - 5 minutes later the ship comes down the Orwell, they take a load of pictures and leave again. Must have seen them 10 times this year. Odd thing is, the ships are always the same two or three that go up and down all the time on regular routes.
yes, isn't she ugly and isn't Fleurtje stunning - funny how much difference that superstructure makes. It also seems that the wood (coloured?) masts and the fact that the three masts are different heights adds a lot to the elegence of Fleurtje.
I saw Fleurtje in Antigua a few months ago - she was there for the summer, alongside Bailey's dock in Falmouth harbour for (another) re-fit - she stayed in Antigua for the summer last year as well.
Her masts are genuine timber (or maybe timber clad carbon?).... I think they have full time varnishers employed....... and she has had money lavished on her in recent years - I think she was originally a two masted schooner, and was 'stretched' about 10 or so years ago, when the third mast was added (but I am not 100% certain about this - can anyone else confirm this?).
Fleurtje is a regular participant in the Antigua Classics regattas, where all the smaller classic yachts always deliberately go out of their way to call starboard on her when she is thundering along at about 10 knots on port.........
I wonder if Eos will be at Antigua Classics next year?

[/ QUOTE ] You're right, she looks much better without the sailing rig.
