A year or so ago there was a series of threads from a guy about his conversions of a large steel working boat into an exploration superyacht. He had very grand plans and talked the talk but I lost track of what eventually happened-ran out of cash-fantasist-or quietly sailing the seas now.
I do not even recollect the boat name or I could search it. Anyone recollect this thread and any outcome?

doo...orr found it now. Capital_R. I was never sure if this was a wind up, a fantasist or just a rich guy having fun?

I can imagine few things I'd want to do less than buy a knackered old North Sea standby boat, waste money renovating it and put up with all the gimcrack shortcuts and cheapness that previous owners have inflicted on what are sometimes quite well designed ships.

That thread was almost as bad as the one about the Colvic hull being fitted out with an electric motor by a gang of land lubbers.

It was also not clear if they were wind up merchants, fantasists or loonies.

My suspicion was a combination of all three ! Certainly at least two. :)

Would love to be proven wrong, with a link to this operating as an active luxury expedition yacht in high latitudes - but as they say up here, eh hey me doots

My apologies are due to Capital_R for speculating about the existance of the project vessel. It seems for family reasons the project has now been abandoned.
