Well, I just saw this video. What a machine despite a woeful level of practicality! Jack seemed to be quite taken with it too.

Having grown up watching 'Ride the White Horses' on BBC2 pretty much every day when I got home from school, this reminds me of those classic boats. I do like that.

Ah the round Britain powerboat race that skipped half of Scotland, I remember when I heard that they were going through the Caley canal, so never paid any attention to it as it was cheating.

I watched that video yesterday too and she's gorgeous. Not sure why the practicality is woeful. Yes sure there are no handrails on this boat but I'm sure the builder would fit them if a customer insisted. I was quite surprised by the price too which seems almost reasonable and I'd certainly have one of these over a Fairline F33 any day

But having said that, I think a modern classic like this needs shaftdrive which would mean, if I had a choice, I'd go for the Swordfish 36. Its even got a handrails and 2 entirely separate en suite cabins. And its available with a Med spec passarelle and aircon too. Where's my cheque book? Shame, the SWMBO seems to have hidden it:D

I thought he said you could have Yanmars with V drives?

Yes youre right but I think for a boat with sporting intentions the engines need to be somewhere near the middle to optimise the handling and that means straight shafts IMHO

Alan Burnard wanted to design a new Huntsman by about 1966. Fairey would not give him the budget to do it, so he built his own raceboat to prove the hull design.

The race boat was a success, Fairey gave him the go ahead for a new boat, hence the Huntsman 31 was born.

From that hull the Spearfish was developed (and the Fantome)

The race boat was sold to a friend of Alan's and is now for sale.

That same friend, took a Spearfish mould, stretched 2ft and built a 1 off called Touch and Go.

The stretched mould has been used for this new Supermarine.

I think this is the 4th time that hull has started production.

What makes it such a good design? Genuine question

Engines in the middle on shafts. Constant deadrise deep vee hull, fine entry forefoot, flared bow.

Best of the bunch is the heavier Fantome 32 but they do need a lot of hp because of the weight.

Of all that generation of boats, my fave 2 hulls are the Bertram 31 and the Sonny Levi Tantarella 35.
