Thanks for the input about my supercharger belt.Sorry I didn't reply.I tried to but the dongle I was using on the boat kept loosing signal. The boat is a S360 sealine Statesman with KMD 42's.The engines have been rebuilt at a cost of 20k(prev owner) this has only happened on one engine by the way.First the belt started to come halfway off the pulley so the engineers replaced the belt and tentioner that had a little play in it, then I cruised out of Poole harbour possibly in and out of the supercharger range stayed at Studland then came back. When I got back the belt had shredded wrapping round the altenator belt turning it inside out.I replaced the belt with a spare slightly worn belt because the engineer couldn't come to look at it.Since then I have checked what revs it cuts in and out and not run it at those revs and its been ok so far.Talking to people this seems par for the cource with these belts. I still don't trust it though.

I wouldnt say its par for the course at all.

As i said in the last topic, ours (KAD32) has survived 500 hours of use with no signs of shredding or undue wear. It has gone in the box as a spare.

Have you checked the condition of your pulley and the tension of the belt?

I think the tension is ok its done by twisting the belt in the middle of the long run at the top.It shouldn't be able to be twisted any further than 180 deg so the engineer showed us.I can't say we have minutely checked the pulleys, but will when we are next down.
Thanks

Doh!

Well I wouldn't have had a clue until yesterday when I got an engineer to look at my loss of revs problem.
He asked me when I last checked the oil levels in my superchargers? I said I hadn't. (Have only had this boat for a few months).
He then undid the 14mm bolt at the top back, pulled it out and hey presto it's a dipstick.
The oil on my port charger was low so he's geting some special volvo compressor oil to top it up.
He explained that it is an oil loss system as minute volumes of oil are expelled by the lubrication of the vanes.
I asked him what would happen if the charger ran out of oil and he replied "It would start shredding your belts!"
You may know about this, but I definately didn't so hope it's helpful to you and maybe other forumites.
Mike
