Think it went up the Thames mate. I was out midday on the jetski at Herne Bay and, considering how shallow it is, the swells were massive. Don't think I saw higher than 20mph on a machine that's good for 60.

And not a single yottie to go and annoy :p~~~~

I'm not sure were the "weather" went - but we had all the wind! Wall to wall sun and F6/7 onshore - yuk.

Didn't get anywhere this weekend after driving down to the marina for our lads trip and then seeing the surf in Torbay- huge and scary. It's not often we get East gales, but wow, they really churn stuff up. There were huge breaking waves, even a mile out, turning the sea brown sand red, and red foam flying everywhere. There were huge explosions of water off Brixham and Teignmouth. The nice thing was that everyone who was out walking in it had a huge smile on their faces.

We had a bit of a batter in a beat eastwards in a F6/7 with some huge gusts coming through, but then a fantastic beam reach back!

Sounds fun- Torbay was the ultimate nasty lee shore this weekend. We thought about making a bolt for it round to Dartmouth, but decided discretion was the better part of valour. Nearly went surfing though, but it was just too rough and windblown.

Re: Superbe day\'s sailing

Nice to have had better weather than the south of England for a change! Slipped under Connel Bridge into Loch Etive on Friday evening when the monster in the Falls of Lora was asleep and spent a windless and peaceful night in Achnacree bay, waking to the mountains sillhouetted against a deep blue sky, the thin moon and dot of venus reflected both above and below them.

A few sunny hours beating up the loch in an F3 took us to anchor off Ardchatten priory for lunch, then the remaining few miles to Bonawe, anchored with the big mountains heading up towards Glencoe just becoming visible around the corner. Watched a seal cautiously circling us, peering comically around the large fish in its mouth. Walked up to the hotel for a drink before rowing back at dusk to another motionless night at anchor.

Then on Sunday motored in the morning calm up to Port an Dobhrain, a little bay, bracken-speckled grassy slopes tumbling over grey crags down to the water, to anchor and walk into the mountains for lunch by a splashing waterfall. As the wind picked up we sailed back down the loch, anchoring tucked into the cluster of low islets, the Abbott's Isles, to wait the tide back through the falls and home.

Cheers
Patrick

OK OK, no need to rub it in - sounds lovely- the weather has been so awful at weekends down here that I haven't had chance to try my new sail yet. You cetainly painted a lovely picture of your weekend.

Yes, well its felt like that here too recently - you'll notice I didn't mention the previous weekend when foolishly we thought it might be worth going over to the boat in case there was a window in the weather, spent two sleepless night being bounced around and hailed on in the marina and the highlight of the days was driving into Oban to take the kids to the swimming pool!

Cheers

"A bit of a batter in a beat" - sounds like you were making Yorkshire pudding - ie giving the batter a bit of a beat !!

Been nowhere near the boat this weekend - caught up on other chores to build brownie points for sailing during the winter. Cut the grass for the last time this year, I hope.
