Dont usually see Barry Harbour like this. All the moorings are lifted once a year for dredging usually in january.Normally wall to wall moorings/boats.

Dont want to be churlish, but the about only time that Barry IS scenic is in the (almost) dark! You must have a romantic soul.

You a BYC member? I'm next door at one of the Cardiff YCs.

It'll take more than a romantic soul to make Barry scenic, or at least half a bottle of Blue Label. A most unwelcome place...................

It may not be St Tropez but I like it.Though I must admit that I am now a member at CBYC.

I was lured there by the full tide access and sheltered water to give the children more confidence. Not being moored in tidal water now makes me feel cut off from the natural world somehow but its a hell of a lot more convenient!

You may have found it unwelcoming ,maybe your expectations were set too high.

From a yachtsmans point of view the main problem is lack of visitors moorings(though the YC does allow rafting alongside members boats provided care is taken) and you cant get ashore after about after half tide due to security measures around the port. Also most of the moorings dry at half tide.

What we shouldnt forget is that before the advent of marinas it was about the only upper Bristol Channel harbour with the luxury of access to shelter at low water.

The harbour is very exposed to winds between S and E but in Westerlies can be a good bolt hole if you run out of tide to get up to Cardiff or Bristol .
