Hi all, sunseeker Martinique 39 , have serious problem with badly leaking windscreens , fortunately to port side so away from helm and associated electrics? ,
Was in the marina today and really heavy torrential rain and the port screens leaked like a sieve. I have contacted a couple of independent screen replacement companies previously ( as the screens are very grey and misty looking) before the extent of the problem became really apparent today with the ingress. The independents although helpful felt that they would struggle to get the two front section to fit in their ovens, contacted trend who used to manufacture the screens for sunseeker but would only talk through Sunseeker
And quoted circa £10 k + for the work! not really an option, anyone out there know where I might be able to get replacements made? Thanks

Keith

Keith, thought I would bump this back up.

I'm surprised you got a negative response from Trend, as I have found them really helpful in the past.

By the way, is your surname an anogram? :)

Had the same problem on a SS Portofino 34 I owned a few years ago, unable to procure replacements I decided to try and polish the mistyness out using an orbital polisher and feracla polishing compound (think it was g3 grade) same method as polishing the grp I kept a bottle of water with a spray head at hand to keep the surface well lubricated, job came up a treat and was 90% better than when I started.
With regard leaking, I carefully masked around the frame and the glass and ran a bead of black sikoflex then smoothing over with a wetted finger, waited for it to go semi off then removed masking tape, never had a further problem.
Rob.

Hi Keith, you could call Steve at Precision Units in Poole. I have used them in the past. They used to make all of Sunseeker's acrylic screens. They may well still have patterns, (if you are lucky). Simon

Rob hi, thanks for the message, I actually bought a polishing kit a couple of weeks ago to have a go, I think the large front screens might well come up ok, the two side ones though are really crazed, like hundreds of little pock marks on them , I think they might be too far gone but I will give it a try. Good thing is if the side ones are past it they will be relatively easy to replace, no fancy sweeping curves to worry about. I checked the outside of the screens today in the dry and the mastic is pretty poor so I will clean off the old mastic and do a repair until I try the polishing if it all works then great, thanks for helping out rob,
Keith

Rafik I, hi , no trend were less than helpful really. I got their details from a sunseeker rep at the SBS so I assumed it would be ok to contact them direct. In fact they tell me they have a reciprocal arrangement with sunseeker and all orders / work etc has to go through them. By the time sunseeker added their margin they were quoting £10k plus vat!. I think I might just stumble along in the dark in that case!!
Keith

Ps no anagram, that's my handle were you trying to come up with a meaning ?

Keith, when I needed a 2mtr length of stainless profile that was used on the rubbing strip of my SS Portofino (damaged by previous owner) Trend were more than happy to supply direct!? Rob.

Have you spoken to Robin Thatcher at Trend?

It was the Leask bit that became Leaks after a glass or 2 of wine, seamingly in harmony with your windscreen seal. Sorry :)

Just a thought, assuming the screen is bespoke to the M39, Trend may simply not be able to sell you the replacement screen (even if they wanted to) as they may not own the IP. I would have thought SS would have claused that in the mfr/supply agreement.

Simon hi , just a follow up , I rang Steve at precision units and he tells me they have never made windscreens for sunseeker, they were always done by trend which was my understanding too. Still thanks for the response, I will keep on trying,

Keith, if your screens are acrylic, then these are reasonably easy to reproduce, using your current ones as patterns. If glass, then should be possible to recover. If flat glass (not curved, and apologies that I dont know your boat), then many glass manufacturers can again use your current screen as a pattern. If curved, then it is more difficult.

A very quick google brought these guys in the UK up...

Rafiki Hi the screens are acrylic, I presume they are original, they are very long though around 7ft on the curve, I tried steve at precision units today but the screens are too big for their ovens as well!

Rafiki hi, already tried these guys as well, the owner is a guy called Gary, he too cannot fit the screens in his oven!!!!

Rafiki, hi the screen is in 4 sections, two large curved front pieces and two elongated triangular pieces at the sides .the large curved pieces have a centre mullion separating them, the height of this mullion ( and the screen) is 48" .measuring along the curve at the top of the screen is 74", measuring along curve at the bottom of the screen it is 84" . It is longer at the bottom than the top because where it meets the the smaller side pieces there is a rake back at an angle which makes the screen longer at the bottom than the top. At the end of the curves the height of the junction with the sides is 34" . The two triangular side pieces are 48" at the top, 88" at the bottom and 34"and 18"respectively at the edges. These side pieces are pretty straightforward being quite flat with no curves so I don't think it will be a problem getting these re done, these are pitted quite badly, much worse than the front screens which are only really very milky looking. Hope you can follow all of the above, if not perhaps if you want to PM me I can send over a sketch and some photos of the screens. Many thanks for your help with this it s really appreciated,
Keith
