My pal has a Superhawk 48 with triple 230 Volvos. I have driven it and it is a dream to handle.

[/ QUOTE ]Mmmm...
I'd rather compare apples with oranges, than outdrives with trimax surface drives. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

echo Mapis,

The outdrives are fairly simple to manouvre as it's a light boat (beware tho-the bowthruster sunseeker fit is effectively useless in any wind). I'm sure it'll take some time to get used to trimming the drives- it will need a bit more work than most as it's so light on the water it does like to jump about a bit.

All good fun tho..and a cracking boat as i'm sure you'll find out

I just came back from the sea trial and all I can say is WOW, what a performance. We where going 45 knots and the captain turned a very sharp turn i mean I thought that the bow rail was gonna hit the water but it was very very stable. And BTW it is a very easy boat to maneuver.
I'll post some pics tomorrow

I'm not surprised at all to read that she's impressive in sharp turns at speed.
But what do you exactly mean by easy to maneuver? Under the following conditions....
1) she's your first boat,
2) you were helming her (not an experienced captain),
3) you had some significant crosswind,
...if you found her easy to maneuver, well, congratulations for your skills.

On a side note, did you check flat out speed and the corresponding rpm of each engine?

Ok, by easy to maneuver I mean by: The captain let me back her out from the slip which i did just fine at, then I went for 25 min in the harbor towards the ocean (there was a lot of traffic today) and then i gave him the wheel so that he could show me the performance. After that I just learned how and when to go from 1st gear to 2nd gear. All the engines where at 3500 rpm when we were cruising.

I see your point re.maneuverability, but mind, the real test is when reversing for stern mooring in crosswind - which as I understand you didn't have the opportunity to check.
Any surface drives boat typically is not very responsive in such conditions - in fact, quite often they also have stern thrusters, though that's more common on bigger boats.
3500 rpm when cruising? And by 'cruising' do you mean the 45kts you previously mentioned?
By heart I'd say that those engines are rated for 3300 max.
And since the boat is supposed to achieve 50kts, unless I'm mistaken, those numbers don't sound right.

The speedometer is not working on it the captain said that it's an electrical problem that is getting fixed, he told me that from previous experience with sunseekers we were going approx 40-45 knots. But I'm pretty sure that the rpms were at 3300-3500. I thought that it was 3500 rpm. I'll check next week when i take it out again after the surveys are done

Luicci,
what a machine. Definitely another ballgame than the Bav 37.
Totally different type of boat too, hope you get to enjoy her to the max ! Many congratulations. About handling ... I'm sure you'll get the hang of it after some practicing.

Cheers,
Alain
