Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

So anyone tried one of these babies????

I had the fortune to use one the other week????

Well finished boat but I think a little expensive with a base price of £190,000 +++ extras like fishing rod holders.

The mechanical speedo seemed a little out-dated... And the baby in-board engines did not set the world on fire.

I have a friend who wants to buy such a boat, has anyone tried a Luhrs at all?? Wonder how it would compare.

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

Baby inboards? Eh? 2 x 310hp Volvo D6s is hardly underpowered for a 37. Only the Yanks can afford to run the triple outboard version.

MBY has just taken delivery of a Sportsfisher as our magazine boat, and so far we're pretty pleased with it. It rides a bit bow-up, which isn't great for short people at the helm, and the price is quite high, but all-in-all it's a pretty good boat. We'll be writing regularly about it in MBY.

Hey Tommy,

Quote "Baby inboards? Eh? 2 x 310hp Volvo D6s is hardly underpowered for a 37. Only the Yanks can afford to run the triple outboard version".

And surely only the yanks would want to buy such a boat! I would assume you or the mag haven't actually bought the boat, just managed to scrounge it for a while.

Talk in the factory is that it's a bit of a flop, and will only be built to order. I would imagine that it's difficult to sell such an overpriced boat to the Yanks when the dollar is so weak!

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

Where do you get 310hp from ??? The KAD 300's produce 285.....

Have you run one of these or are you guessing on performance? I have had the pleasure and they are not enough.....

32 Knots for a "sportsfisher" No sport in 32 knots.

Boat does handle well though...

And with regard to fuel for triple outboards, I guess if you can afford to buy one of these then running it wont be an issue, after all it is like a big tender so the people buying will already own something like a Sunseeker 105 etc........

Only my opinion

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

Yeah I know a Gobbi 425 that'll do 34knts in the right hands :~) a bit wet tho

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

I dunno for sure but general rumour is that they are selling as fast as can make em to the US market, where it is a premium sports fisher model. Sales in Europe are said to be tiny, a couple in UK incl the one scrounged/bought/leased/dunno by MBY. There's one in dealer stock at the Golfe Juan Sseeker deal (South France) with double outboards (erk - you need the three if it's gonna be outboards, come on) - this is unsold.

Learner knows a bit about this, has been looking at em, along with Windy Bora, Superhawk, oh never mind....... :-)

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

I was told by the factory that they'd made 50 (or was it 70?) of them, almost all going to the US. Sportsfishers aren't really Sunseeker's key market, so this is very much an experimental, toe-in-the-water boat. Made a pretty decent job of it, but at a price.

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

Yes, but if you read my original reply, the MBY boat has twin D6s in, which make 310hp each.

Yes, we've been running the Sportsfisher for a month now. Best top speed so far is around 37 knots in fairly heavy seas, so a couple of knots left to go in calm conditions.

Three outboards

The one at SIBS is the 3 outboard version and looked well tasty, albeit not a boat for the UK market. One reason for this must, surely, be fuel consumption. Just how much petrol would it slurp at full bore? /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

Yepp its gone very quiet from the 'prop kicker' down in SoF. I would imagine he's made a nuisance of himself at the Cannes Boat show, but still now boat to show!!!!!

Re: Three outboards

I thought there was one at the show with 2 x d6 aswel?
How about the st tropez in the new brochure? off shoot of sportsfgisher, looked a bit strange to me, they have tried to come up with another way to increase sales, possibly cos the sports fisher is not a huge success??

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

caught many fish on it Tom?

strikes me (hehe) that it's a loveley sports boat, with a great (different) deck layout but it's hardly a fisher by any reasonable definition (and including rod holders is not a reasonable definition!)

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

i've seen this boat, loads of little lockers incl special locker that can pump seawater for er bait (or fish? dunno) plenty of space for rearward looking at fishing lines. Just about the only decent-looking fishing boat i have ever seen. Apparently the softop version is a bit wet if it's wavy, but what the heck. I wdn't buy one cos i am rubbish at fishing.

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

crawled all over them too tcm ; will admit that plumbed in livebait well is getting close to a reasonable definition of a fishing boat.../forums/images/icons/smile.gif
ultimately it's a very inovative layout with a sportsfisher styling more than functionality though - in the UK the livebait well should keep the Chablis at just the right temperature!

Re: Sunseeker Sportsfisher 37\'

So lots of comments on the boat... Having been out in one I can tell you that it is VERY wet. Not quite as wet as a Gobbi 425 but a close call....

If you are not 6 feet tall you wont be able to see where you are going either as the bow rises like a 747 at take off.

Still £200k start price is about right (NOT)

For the person that hasnt seen nicer looking fishing boats check out the Luhrs range, now they look like real fishing boats. Big inboard diesels, clear aft deck, fighting chair and multiple helm positions. I can imagine one of those fight a big tuna, cant see the sunseeker cutting the mustard.

Real fishing boat

Hi Matt, I'm using a friends boat down here in Duquesa, he had it shipped over from SA. Now this is one helluva fishing boat, 28ft stepped hull, 35-40kts, from twin 225hp Evenrudes.
It has a tank where you can let in up to a ton of seawater to keep the tuna fresh. Its a seriously designed solidly built fast fishing boat, which I am arranging to use for fishing charters. Oh and we may also be using it for Power Boat level 2 courses. It handles like a dream and not wet at all.

Will try to get a piccie of her and put it on here. Clive

Re: Three outboards

Sunseeker had both inboard and outboard versions on their stand, plus the MBY inboard boat was available for trips round the bay in the Try-a-Boat section of the Show
