Both 94 boats ( I like the 95 Martiniques with the full cherry wood but they are just our of reach budget wise.

There is a bit more choice with the Martinique, but not by a great deal. I think the Sunseeker is a bigger boat, but perhaps the styling on the Targa is a little more fresh. that said, I think both are classics and wont really age.

Interested to here thoughts and any other suggestions in that bracket. Money wise, they are in the £65k-£75k region.

prefare the classic approach of the 38 Targa, still looks good IMO and a classic from the builder

Sunseeker 39 Mart was modern and all ready going in circles with this model, but middle hull hump upawrds makes it look a bit dated, bottom vee is an extention from 36 and later on 38 model

seakeeping of 38 Targa in 1996 renamed as 39 with extra foot in platform, is among the best Fairline has ever made, hull bottom was used later on for 40 Targa

I'm sure they will drop again, currently for sale on the Yachtworld for 80k minus a fiver, last year they were looking for 90k, and Novenber 1st ain't far away now and at £1 + a litre, big old boats have got to suffer a price drop OIMHO that is.

The inwards one is on for £79,950. Ancasta have a 1995 with the full cherrywood, 4KVa genny, air and 2007 nav for £82500.

Told the guy at inwards we would be looking at closer to £65k and he got all shirty with me.

I've got a hardon for the mustique 42, but I'm waiting to see what the ali and gordy team are going to do with the fuel,

my thoughts are, if it cost £750 to fill up 1500 litres before the oil price rise, come next spring it could be nearer 2k for the same fuel with the new tax and their range is rubbish 230-320 nm on a fillup, and after a full season of trying to feed it, some owners will want out, but it's only a theory.

plus I like the idea of big bullit proof cats and shafts, instead of those bloody expensive vp's

just have to wait and see.

and what are you going to do with a boat over the next 7 months?
Step back and play the deck. 15 year old 39ft powerboats are not this-or next-seasons flavour.
Stay well chilled, Jez !

seems strange to me a boat dealer being a differant brand from his own

btw just spent the evening on a nice new targa 40 - what a treat !!!

I'm not technically minded but purely on looks I would go for the targa, will probably be a bit dated downstairs but that can be dealt with in time if it bothers you, but the sunseeker is dated up top, bugger all you can do about that.

Absolutey!

I know what you need and where, and... it's just about on budget!

I would go for the targa anyday, the interiors of old sunseekers look so dated where the targas are ok at any time, and there better built too, I also like the older 38 over the newer 37.

Jez, you know the 37 is a cracking boat, its all well and good for people to say that an older boat isnt everyones cup of tea, but lets be realistic guys, if looked after and serviced properly they are goo for years of running. The Targa looks great whatever the year, the blue hull of course a needy item IMO.

I have to say having followed the mighty Houston accross the Channel I will say that the sea keeping of the beastie is impressive, and if the 39 was as good, you would be well chuffed.

The 40, is a belter of a boat but not everyone has a couple of hundred to play with?

Jez, you buy whatever you fancy my old fruit cake, but bargain hard, Ancaster are the ones having a laugh by the way!

Jas.

Cant stretch to a 37 old boy, looking at a 38 (which is alsmost the same as a T40 hull wise but with a different cockpit layout). I like the Targa too and the green interior can be changed without much hassle.

Would love a 48 of course, Hard Rock looks cracking from the pics (still no invite for a nosy round though /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif) but dont have the £££ to buy or run /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I agree 100% forget the nice integrated windshield of the 37 for a minute,
the 38/39 Targa is such a better boat in everything, give them a moderate upwind togather and the reply will be easy to have
