Sunseeker Hawk 38 review - MBY

Good review, thanks for the pointer.

Am I right in not having seen the throttleman releasing the levers upon take-off at 10:43?
If so, those engines must be very solid indeed!

Youtube is a funny place, btw.
Someone already dismissed the Hawk by calling the Beneteau a proper boat, instead.
Pretty much like saying that Dyson vacuum cleaners are not as good as a proper broom....

It's hard to say. That footage was supplied by Sunseeker so I can't say for certain who was driving and how they were driving the boat

Ah yes, the Wild West that is the YouTube comment section. Best avoided in my experience :ambivalence:

Hmm, very nice but more than 3 times the price of an Axopar 37 which is only 8 or 9 knots slower with smaller engines, similarly great sea keeping and has at least one cabin with option for a second.

I like it and Hugo’s summed it up well at the end .
There’s marketing room for S/Skr to return to performance as well as push on with the current range of floating apartments.
Look fwd to a 50 and 60 return of today’s versions of the super hawk ?

YouTube Comment:
“A very ugly boat. Why isn't Jack doing all your videos, he is far better at presenting than Hugo.”

;):p;)

I like it also and agree that it's good to see them back into performance boats but £600k....that's just ludicrous. Even the Brabus Shadow version of the Axopar 37 with the same 400R engines is about £350k I think.

That Hawk looks like fun in an "Ibiza from my berth in an hour" kind of way but would have very limited appeal to me. The Princess is a little more practical but too complex for me to be a long term proposition.

But it's interesting that S/S and Princess have gone completely different routes and FL have yet another interpretation of the 30-40ft dayboat / weekender theme with their upcoming 33 footer (which should still be a fast boat for a fraction of the price of the S/S & Pr boats.

It’s the halo effect and aura they have created.
Picture the scene at a boat show or S/Skr flash office with one of those in the the mix at Cannes and a stunning pic as a back drop in the sales office .
Ok if that’s hard to see picture this you are after a boggo family runabout car and walk into a flash Audi showroom and smack bang in front is a orange R 8 ( insert hottest) ltd Ed version with a sticker price of £180 K .
Also there’s a hot RS6 ltd Ed for shy under £100 K sitting in the mix .
All you are after is £25 -£30 K ,s worth .
The R8 has only two doors , no back seats , tiny boot ,a bit wide and low for London Suburbs etc etc .
It’s just lifts everyone and it’s halo mentally makes you pull the trigger on an Audi product .
So a guy with £6 M to burn on a 80/90 ftrs “ yacht “ which lets face it is not ever gonna see any where near 30 knots even thought the MBY team reported in a test 34 knots ? Psychologically is gonna walk round the Hawk 38 at Cannes thinking theses S/ Skrs are fast / sporty / young [ insert your own applause] .
He may have even 25 odd years ago had a super hawk Eddie Jordan as an example .

I think with the Ferretti Group the bread and butter profit makers are Ferrittis FB , Pershing sports boats and Riva and CRN
Stuff like Itama , Moichi craft just add balance and a that sprinkle of halo ( Itama 75 @€4 M + ) to already impressive line up @ Cannes .You don’t need to sell many they drag up the brand or group .
There’s a few big Riva opens too which along with the Itama 75 m like the R8 , are expensive and in the cold light of day terrible VFM if you start comparing them with this and that for the bang for your buck .
Ask yourself why we are all not driving Dacias ?

Also with the Hawk 38 as said on the other thread it’s a SY owners tender / plaything so not there only boat ,hence zero cabin like the Axopar .Its aimed at a different demographic of owner . I think that’s why it’s easy to drive fast and safe to be in the hands of inexperienced and flatter the driver .

Sunseeker have an incredible CEO (Frabetti) now and if given the funds and the opportunity they will do very well in the coming years. He is a naval engineer first and a boater second owning a Bertram Moppie himself.

Princess have a well of cash so as long as the loses are not so big will continue steam rolling, and at the moment the news is that they cannot build them fast enough. The R35 is just a marketing tool to wow buyers.

Fairline have a nice project and the sea side yard purchase are all good news, but it has clouds in the horizon. I will mention two one is an appointment of a CEO which handled a new Oyster losing a keel in a not so nice way, the second is that Mancini seems destined to go. Models seem already to be delaying was not the 35 supposed to launch in 2018, and the 64 now Squadron 68 in early 2019.
This is a huge contrast to Princess presenting models before schedule.

Amen to that.
Companies like Wanda are very far from being the ideal shareholders I would have liked to work for, but in this case they can only be praised for their choice.
In sharp contrast with SHIG, who should be ashamed of their, in comparison. :ambivalence:
