Picture in our local paper this week of a 83ft Sunseeker, "It's a Beautiful Life," ($4M worth) ablaze in the Gulf of Mexico off N end of Longboat Key a week ago yesterday. Three people rescued before she sank in 27ft of water. I have no other info except regd in BVI, and she probably did not have petrol engines/forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Don't be daft Arthur. Can't possibly have caught fire without petrol engines!

This seems more than coincidence?

Am I imagining it, or are all the recent boat fires (the 'hattan84 in spain last year, the one of which someone posted a pic here about 10days ago, the one in Port Solent last year, and now this one) Sunseekers? Seems more than coincidence to me.......

Re: This seems more than coincidence?

I think the factor in common, is not that they are Sunseekers, but that they are diesels, which are notoriously unsafe, unlike petrol engined boats! /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: This seems more than coincidence?

Not by any chance suggesting that Sunseekers are bought by the kind of people that torch the boat and claim the insurance when the finance payments get a little onerous?

If that was the case here, they didn't plan it too well unless they wanted to get rid of the only woman on board. The two guys got into a dinghy or life raft from the stern, but the woman had to be rescued from the bow by a passing fisherman.

mmm, thought had crossed my mind too but I thought it was poor form to suggest such a thing without ascertaining the variouse causes.
