Sunseeker Camargue 44 Very loud

What sort of noise?

If your engines are loud:

--put some soundproofing in....or renew the soundproofing with new stuff...

--put silencers on your exhausts BUT be really careful with this....the knock-on effect to other systems can be huge. For example if the silencers restrict exhaust gas & water flow too much your turbos will overheat and crack, the engines won't breathe and will lose power

Good luck.

My guess is the noise is coming out the exhaust, so sound proofing the engine room won't make much difference, and it's most likely padded already. I seem to remember Sunseeker use much smaller silencers, or was it even no silencers, and certainly they always seem to be noisier than other boats. It may be possible to upgrade the silencers if there's room, but if there's no room, and it's that much of a problem, maybe you're looking at changing the boat.

Mmmm. Detroit diesels I suspect.

I would check with manufacturer before fitting extra silencers. I believe the correct exhaust back preshure may be critical.

We have Detroit's onboard and no problem with exhaust sound....

Have Vetus Watertraps onboard ( http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/fd2b8fee#/fd2b8fee/66 )... bottom right on page 67... (so back pressure issues can be resolved).

Have started her with them dry after being on-shore and man is she loud !!!! They'll hear her miles away without them ... with them she is soft and a nice deep business like rumble from the exhaust ... but not intrusive from flybridge or anywhere inside..

Most likely cat 3126 420hp and yes they are noisey, if all sports cruisers were like that we would all have flybridges, though why they are so noisey im not sure compared to a volvo.

My 410 is very quiet from downstairs, I sat there for some time this saturday on our way to Bembridge, the only real noises are from the props wash under the hull.

Chris Kaye has a portofino 400 with same engines in, I brought it over with him last year from IOW and it did seem a bit noisier than my boat, it is on v drives so maybe the engines being under the cockpit make more noise than the conventional set up with engines under the saloon floor.

My dad has a sunseeker rappallo 36 with 300hp ford sabres in. Straight out exhaust, not ridiculously noisy though.

As VolvoPaul says most prob CAT3126's. They are noisier than my previous Volvo's and if anyone finds an easy way of soundproofing then I would like to know about it. I have been thinking about replacing my engine bay soundproofing with the latest stuff to quieten it down but its on low priority list.

Also someone mentioned a lead blanket to put over the engines, but I wonder about compromising the engine cooling.
I think its going to be a combination of stuff, better soundproofing in engine bay and tekdek / teak on the cockpit floor else and perhaps some earplugs !

I'll add another recommendation for Halyard. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable people. I'm guessing you are talking about exhaust noise rather than mechanical noise. I had Cat 3126 engines in a Targa 48 once and I don't remember them as being particularly noisy so it's certainly possible to silence then effectively. This is another guess as well but I would suspect that SS have fitted the C44 with in line silencers rather than water trap silencers, possibly for cost or space reasons. If so, the first thing to do is to get these silencers checked. Like a car silencer, the internal pipework and baffles can fail so you may achieve a worthwile improvement simply replacing the silencers. However if you want a substantial improvement, a water trap silencer is the best system but, as I indicated, they take up a lot more space than an in line silencer so it may not be possible to fit them. Either way, Halyard will be able to give you excellent advice on your possible options

Sell it to me and buy something quieter ;)

Ive been looking to buy a C44 for a while now but everything (thats not knackered) is sold.

They are noisy (exhaust) and Im sure its intentional from SS, the C44 looked fast but wasnt so the noise makes it feel faster than it is.
