Sunseeker anode proection?

A galvanic isolator is not an alternative to a sacrificial anode cathodic protection system

The anodes are fitted (and bonded electrically) to the items that are likely to suffer from corrosion.

When shore power is connected (plugged in but not necessarily in use) there is a risk that stray currents from various sources will be conducted by the earth wire and lead to rapid wastage of the anodes and in severe cases corrosion of vulnerable underwater bits and pieces. The GI allows current from high voltage sources (the shore power supply) to pass so maintaining the safety aspects of the earthing but blocks current from the low voltage sources responsible for corrosion.
If you do leave your shore power connected then a GI is almost essential.
Because they prevent excessive wastage of the anodes they are often called "zinc savers"

Sorry I cannot say if you have anodes on your boat. You probably do as they tend to be fitted as a precautionary measure especially to protect the stern gear and are are almost certainly fitted to stern drives etc.

Vic, I do have anodes fitted to the drives as standard, however having only just bought this boat I'm not sure if Volvo fit a simmilar system to Mercruiser's mercathode system which I had on my last boat?
Thanks

continued :

There are several versions of the AD41 and I have not as yet found a manual on line which includes the 290 drives. However there will I am sure be a zinc ring fixed to the drive lower gearbox itself behind the propeller. There may also be anodes on the propeller itself. They will be one I think on the bottom of the transom shield. There is also an anode, I think, in the engine cooling system.
Consult your owners manual and do not fail to replace these anodes when half consumed.

There may also be anodes on the boat hull to protect other under water bits and pieces. replace these if they exist when down to 1/3 of their original size

Definately not fitted as standard on sunseekers of that vintage. Not really needed either if the anodes are in good shape. Galvanic Isolater would be a good addition to combat shore power leaks

There is a Volvo system similar to the Mercathode system , The QL "Active corrosion protection" or ACP. As far as I know only fitted as an accessory (easy to fit they say) although the Mercathode system is standard on some installations.

If you have it there will be a control box somewhere for each drive with lights to indicate correct operation or otherwise of the unit.
Last time I wanted to know about the thing I found the info easily ... now I cant!
but you'll find a picture of the control units in the on line accessory catalogue
