You mean motorboaters don’t youDoes one need to? Surely rules are for other people, not me?![]()

Are you saying you don’t ever use an anchor ball day shape?Agreed. There is very often justification for an anchor light, and I often use one (not at the masthead). I'm quite sure that when the col regs came out, reg anchor balls, those drafting them hadn't thought of the huge numbers of small boats that there are nowadays. But, if people are happier to use them, that's fine by me. I'm not one of your five.
Did I say that? Are you saying you don’t ever use an anchor ball day shape?
Not explicitly. Just wondered what, “I’m not one of your five” meant?Did I say that?
Well, it could simply mean that I don't need to borrow one, as I have one of my own in the locker. Not explicitly. Just wondered what, “I’m not one of your five” meant?
I’d like to say ‘understood’ but I’d be lying. I’ve obviously missed somethingWell, it could simply mean that I don't need to borrow one, as I have one of my own in the locker.

Anyone know why there is a 54 ft sailing yacht, un manned with no lights or AIS transmission anchored in the West Solent near W Lepe buoy
It has been there all week: I passes it on Monday as I headed West and still there today.
It is mentioned in the CG broadcasts.
Is there any plan to move it before the weekend's forecast bad weather?
Perhaps they are billionaires and don’t care? There was a boat anchored in a bay near us while apparently the owner went away back home some way off. Following a storm it ended up on a remote rocky beach where it still is now, slowly breaking up.
What I am saying is why would someone leave their boat at anchor and go away? Is it not worth some £££ to tuck it up in a marina or harbour if you have to leave it?
Dunno about him, but I often anchor overnight without using an anchor ball. And will continue to do so.Are you saying you don’t ever use an anchor ball day shape?
Overnight just one or more anchor lights only required, surely?Dunno about him, but I often anchor overnight without using an anchor ball. And will continue to do so.
I'd direct you to the second half of this:Well, it could simply mean that I don't need to borrow one, as I have one of my own in the locker.
Which is why they are called day shapes in the regs.Dunno about him, but I often anchor overnight without using an anchor ball. And will continue to do so.
